Ecstasy is a synthetic psychedelic drug with hallucinogenic properties. Ecstasy's active ingredient, MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), stimulates the senses and intense euphoria. Fueled by a release of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine, ecstasy users experience a rush of energy, leading to feelings of hyperactivity and emotional connectedness. However, due to the rapid release of serotonin, ecstasy users quickly deplete this vital neurotransmitter and in the days following an ecstasy trip, experience depression, anxiety, and lethargy.
Continual use, ecstasy can cause tooth & gum disease, bruxism (teeth grinding), jaw clenching, and high blood pressure. Chronic ecstasy use can also lead to severe depression, anxiety, lethargy, and memory loss.
